Job Description
Island Health is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Operations Aide to join our dynamic Information Technology team. This pivotal part-time role, offering flexible hours, is designed for an individual eager to contribute to the seamless operation of our extensive network infrastructure across our facilities in the Oak Bay and broader Victoria area. As a Network Operations Aide, you will play a crucial supporting role in ensuring our network remains robust, secure, and highly available, directly impacting our ability to deliver essential health services. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a complex enterprise network environment, working alongside experienced network professionals. Your flexible schedule will allow you to balance work with other commitments while still making a significant contribution to our vital healthcare operations. You will assist with routine network maintenance tasks, troubleshoot basic connectivity issues, and support our senior technicians in larger network projects. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the monitoring of network performance and health, reporting any anomalies to senior staff.
- Perform routine physical checks of network equipment, including routers, switches, and servers, to ensure proper functioning.
- Support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware and cabling.
- Help troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues for end-users and escalate complex problems as required.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of network assets and related documentation.
- Assist with routine data backups and network security procedures.
- Participate in the deployment of network upgrades and patches under supervision.
- Provide hands-on support for network infrastructure changes and planned outages.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP).
- Familiarity with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Proficiency in basic computer operations and software applications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and move network equipment (up to 25 lbs) and work in various IT environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or holding a diploma/certificate in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with network cabling and patch panel management.
- Previous experience in a technical support or IT assistant role.
- Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) tools.
