Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize various multimedia tools and techniques, including basic photography and videography, to enhance storytelling and appeal to a broader audience.
  • Collaborate effectively with editors, photographers, and other team members to ensure coherent and impactful news coverage and story development.
  • Stay abreast of current affairs, local policies, and community developments to anticipate news trends and identify emerging stories proactively.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of English grammar and style.
  • Proven investigative journalism abilities, including research, fact-checking, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in conducting professional and empathetic interviews.
  • Unyielding commitment to journalistic ethics, accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong digital literacy, including familiarity with content management systems and social media platforms.
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for fieldwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field.
  • An NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience with multimedia reporting, including basic video editing or audio production.
  • Existing knowledge of the Roath Park and wider Cardiff community, including local politics and social issues.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to the local community.
