As a Nurse in General & Ward Service, you will be at the forefront of patient care, utilizing your clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for a diverse range of patients. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to a holistic approach to patient management and ensuring the best possible outcomes. Your day will involve a variety of tasks, from administering medications and managing complex wound care to providing crucial emotional support to patients and their families during challenging times. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, person-centred nursing care to patients on a general ward.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, record observations, and identify changes in condition, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Manage wound care, catheter care, and other clinical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Support patient discharge planning and provide relevant health education.
  • Participate in ward rounds, team meetings, and contribute to continuous service improvement.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and infection control policies.
  • Act as a role model, mentor, and supervise junior staff and students where applicable.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in a hospital ward setting
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to manage a diverse patient caseload effectively
  • Proficiency in basic IT skills for electronic patient records
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development
  • Right to work in the UK

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic patient record systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • Specific training in areas such as venepuncture, cannulation, or ECG interpretation
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues
