Job Description

Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach is seeking a motivated and dedicated Painters’ Apprentice to join our skilled maintenance team. As a Painters’ Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the vibrant appearance and structural integrity of our eclectic property, which features a variety of surfaces and artistic finishes. You’ll gain practical experience in all facets of painting, from surface preparation and primer application to advanced finishing techniques and colour matching. This full-time position is perfect for someone with a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to develop valuable trade skills. You will be instrumental in ensuring our cottages, common areas, and exterior structures always look their best, contributing directly to the unforgettable guest experience Jakes Hotel is known for. We are looking for an individual who is reliable, a quick learner, and passionate about contributing to the beauty of our property. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced painters with various tasks, including surface preparation (sanding, scraping, cleaning).
  • Help mix, match, and apply paints, varnishes, and other finishes to a variety of surfaces.
  • Learn and practice proper techniques for using brushes, rollers, and other painting tools.
  • Protect surrounding areas and furniture from paint splatter and damage.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines, including proper handling and storage of materials.
  • Assist with minor repairs and touch-ups as needed.
  • Transport equipment and supplies to various work sites across the property.
  • Take direction and constructive feedback from lead painters and supervisors.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong eagerness and willingness to learn the painting trade.
  • Excellent work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to lift moderate weights, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for colour and aesthetics.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and their safe operation.
  • Previous experience in manual labour or a hands-on environment is a plus but not required.
