Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal with a strong focus on documentation support to join our dynamic legal team in Johannesburg. This full-time role is crucial in assisting our attorneys across various practice areas by ensuring meticulous management, organisation, and preparation of legal documents. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and organise extensive legal documentation, including pleadings, discovery materials, agreements, and correspondence, both physically and electronically.
- Draft, review, and proofread a variety of legal documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specific formatting guidelines.
- Conduct thorough legal research using online databases and other resources to support case preparation and fact-finding.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and client meetings by compiling necessary documents and preparing presentation materials.
- Maintain and update case management systems, ensuring all relevant data and documents are accurately recorded.
- Liaise with clients, court personnel, and external counsel as directed by attorneys, maintaining professional communication standards.
- Oversee filing processes, including electronic filings (e-filing) and physical submissions, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
- Provide administrative support to attorneys, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and expense reporting.
- Ensure strict confidentiality of all client and firm-related information.
- Assist with due diligence processes, collating and reviewing documents for transactional matters.
Required Skills
- Paralegal Diploma or Degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of paralegal experience in a corporate legal department or law firm environment.
- Proven experience in legal documentation management and preparation.
- Strong proficiency in legal research methodologies and tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, Juta Law).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with e-discovery platforms and document review software.
- Familiarity with various practice areas such as Corporate, Litigation, or Banking & Finance.
- A strong understanding of South African legal procedures and regulations.
