Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Part-Time Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Chimanimani, Manicaland Province. This role is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of our existing infrastructure and new development projects within our operational areas. The ideal candidate will provide expert structural engineering support on a part-time basis, contributing to design, analysis, inspection, and maintenance activities. Given the region’s unique geographical and climatic conditions, including susceptibility to natural phenomena like cyclones, the role demands a keen understanding of resilient design principles and local building codes. You will work closely with project managers, civil engineers, and site teams to deliver sound engineering solutions that meet both regulatory requirements and operational demands. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structural analysis and design for new construction projects, renovations, and modifications to existing structures, including industrial buildings, processing plants, and ancillary facilities.
- Perform site inspections of structures to assess their condition, identify potential weaknesses, and recommend appropriate remedial actions or upgrades.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and best practices.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, calculations, and cost estimates for structural components of projects.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including civil engineers, architects, and contractors, to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
- Ensure all structural designs and work comply with national building codes, safety regulations, and ZCDC's internal standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support during the construction phase, addressing any structural queries or challenges that arise.
- Participate in the development and implementation of maintenance programs for ZCDC's structural assets.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural engineering, materials, and technologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in structural design and analysis.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Staad.Pro) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of national and international building codes and standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively in a project-driven environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering.
- Professional registration with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) or equivalent professional body.
- Experience working in the mining, heavy industry, or large-scale infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with structural design considerations for seismic activity and extreme weather conditions (e.g., cyclones).
- Project management experience, particularly in remote or challenging environments.
- Local knowledge and experience working on projects within the Manicaland Province.
