Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end weekly and monthly payroll cycles for all employees accurately and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments (SMP, SSP, SPP), and apprenticeship levy.
  • Administer pension schemes, including auto-enrolment, contributions, and liaison with pension providers.
  • Manage payroll queries from employees, providing clear, accurate, and timely responses with a high level of customer service.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports (e.g., RTI submissions, P45s, P60s) to HMRC and other relevant bodies.
  • Reconcile payroll data, including deductions, expenses, and benefits, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Assist with year-end payroll procedures and reporting.
  • Maintain meticulous payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, taxation, and statutory requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll, BrightPay, Xero Payroll).
  • Excellent numerical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or working towards it.
  • Experience with integrated HRIS (Human Resources Information System) platforms.
  • Previous experience working in a multi-client or high-volume payroll environment.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits administration.
