Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and patient-focused Pharmacist with a specialization in Medicine Management to join our esteemed team at Eldoret Hospital. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of medication management, from procurement and storage to dispensing, patient counseling, and ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Dispense medications accurately and safely, ensuring proper labeling and dosage instructions.
- Provide comprehensive patient counseling on medication use, potential side effects, storage, and adherence.
- Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating stock to prevent expiry and ensure availability.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes.
- Monitor drug therapies for efficacy, adverse reactions, and drug interactions, intervening as necessary.
- Participate in ward rounds and provide expert pharmaceutical advice to the medical team.
- Maintain accurate patient medication records and ensure proper documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) regulations, hospital policies, and best practice guidelines.
- Contribute to drug utilization review programs and formulary management.
- Educate healthcare staff on new medications, drug policies, and safe medication practices.
- Prepare and compound specialized medications as required, maintaining sterile conditions where necessary.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from a recognized institution.
- Valid practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) of Kenya.
- Proven experience as a Pharmacist, ideally within a hospital setting.
- Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug interactions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to counsel patients effectively.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in pharmaceutical software and general computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate diploma or master's degree in Clinical Pharmacy or a related field.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to pharmacy operations.
- Training or certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Participation in continuous professional development (CPD) programs related to medicine management.
- Experience in a teaching hospital or a facility with a high patient volume.
