Job Description

Iten Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and fully licensed Pharmacist Professional to join our dynamic and growing team. As a Pharmacist at Iten Pharmacy, you will be at the forefront of direct patient care, shouldering the crucial responsibilities of accurately dispensing medications, providing expert, evidence-based health advice, and meticulously ensuring strict adherence to all pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines set forth by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently dispense prescription medications and over-the-counter products, ensuring correct dosage and labeling.
  • Provide comprehensive and clear medication counseling to patients, covering dosage, administration, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Thoroughly review and interpret physician's orders for accuracy, clinical appropriateness, completeness, and potential conflicts.
  • Monitor patient medication profiles for drug allergies, contraindications, therapeutic duplications, and potential adverse drug reactions.
  • Proactively manage pharmacy inventory, including diligent ordering, accurate receiving, systematic stocking, and ensuring proper and secure storage conditions for all pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain precise, confidential, and up-to-date patient records in strict accordance with all relevant privacy regulations and guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to all local, regional, and national pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and professional ethical guidelines, including those from the PPB.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care plans and resolve any medication-related issues.
  • Actively participate in health promotion initiatives, community outreach, and patient education programs to enhance public health literacy.
  • Supervise, guide, and provide ongoing training to pharmacy support staff (e.g., pharmacy technicians, assistants) as needed.
  • Ensure the pharmacy environment remains consistently clean, organized, safe, and compliant with all health and safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Possession of a valid and current Pharmacist license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya (PPB).
  • Proven practical experience of at least 2 years in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Exceptional and up-to-date knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics, and complex drug interactions.
  • Strong, comprehensive understanding of Kenyan pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and ethical practice guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Swahili to effectively serve our diverse community.
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy management software systems and essential basic computer applications.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering accuracy in dispensing and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a valued team member.
  • A genuinely compassionate, empathetic, and patient-focused approach to care.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decisive decision-making abilities, especially in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Experience with advanced inventory management systems, supply chain logistics, and pharmaceutical procurement.
  • Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as immunizations, diabetes management, or antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Familiarity and engagement with local community health needs, challenges, and initiatives in Elgeyo-Marakwet.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience within a busy pharmacy setting.
