Key Responsibilities
- Assist physiotherapists during patient treatment sessions, including setting up equipment and guiding patients through prescribed exercises as directed.
- Prepare treatment areas before and after use, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and adherence to all hygiene and safety protocols.
- Monitor patients' comfort, progress, and safety during exercises and report any changes, concerns, or adverse reactions immediately to the supervising physiotherapist.
- Maintain and clean physiotherapy equipment regularly, ensuring all tools are in good working order, calibrated, and readily available for use.
- Manage patient scheduling, appointments, and confirm attendance, ensuring efficient flow of clinic operations.
- Accurately record patient data, treatment progress, and other essential information in the electronic health records (EHR) system while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Provide administrative support, including answering phones, managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, processing paperwork, and managing clinic supplies inventory.
- Educate patients on basic exercise techniques, proper body mechanics, and home care instructions as advised and approved by the physiotherapist.
- Assist with patient intake procedures, including taking vital signs, performing basic measurements, and documenting initial observations.
- Contribute to a positive, encouraging, and empathetic clinic atmosphere, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for all patients and their families.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective patient and team interaction.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities, with a consistently patient-centered approach.
- Ability to meticulously follow complex instructions and work effectively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and common musculoskeletal conditions.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling software.
- Demonstrated physical stamina and dexterity to assist patients with mobility, transfers, and manage various physiotherapy equipment.
- Possess a high degree of empathy, compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to help others improve their health.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Physiotherapy Assisting, Nursing Assisting, or a closely related healthcare support field.
- Previous experience (1+ years) working in a clinical healthcare, rehabilitation, or physical therapy setting.
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and common physiotherapy procedures.
- Prior experience utilizing electronic health records (EHR) or similar patient management systems.
