Job Description
As a Pipeline Welding Technician at ADNOC, you will be a critical part of our operational excellence team, ensuring the structural integrity and reliability of our extensive pipeline network across various critical assets in the United Arab Emirates. Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding on pipelines using various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) according to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Prepare pipes and fittings for welding, including cutting, grinding, bevelling, cleaning, and fit-up, ensuring precise alignment and surface preparation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to execute work accurately and efficiently.
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of welded joints for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards before and after welding.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner, performing minor repairs and calibrations as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, procedures, and ADNOC’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and guidelines.
- Assist in non-destructive testing (NDT) preparations and coordinate effectively with NDT technicians.
- Identify and report any potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or quality issues to supervisory personnel promptly.
- Participate actively in pre-job safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety awareness programs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of welding activities, materials used, and work completed for documentation and traceability.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in various welding processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
- Demonstrated ability to weld on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloy pipes of various diameters and wall thicknesses.
- Expertise in pipe fitting and preparation techniques including cutting, grinding, bevelling, and joint configuration.
- Strong ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, isometric drawings, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Thorough understanding of international welding codes and standards (e.g., ASME Section IX, API 1104).
- Excellent visual inspection skills for weld quality, identifying defects, and ensuring adherence to specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in a high-risk industrial environment, particularly within the oil and gas sector.
- Physical stamina and dexterity required for demanding welding tasks, often in challenging environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Welder (e.g., AWS, ASME, API certifications specifically for pipeline welding).
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience working in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with various pipe coating and protection methods to prevent corrosion.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as Radiography (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT).
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in diverse teams and under demanding timelines or pressure.
- Vocational training or a technical diploma in welding technology from a recognized institution.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work.
