Job Description

WASCO is seeking a skilled and dedicated Plumber to join our dynamic team in Leribe (Hlotse), Leribe District. As a Plumber at WASCO, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our water distribution and sewerage systems. Your expertise will ensure the continuous provision of essential services to our customers, uphold public health standards, and protect the environment.

This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of various plumbing fixtures, pipes, and drainage systems across WASCO’s infrastructure, including water treatment plants, pumping stations, distribution networks, and customer connections. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex plumbing issues, performing corrective actions, and executing preventative maintenance schedules. This often includes working with both potable water and wastewater systems, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to the water utility sector.

We are looking for an individual who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong commitment to quality workmanship, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be adept at using a variety of plumbing tools and equipment, interpreting technical drawings, and responding to emergency call-outs promptly and efficiently. Your contributions will directly impact the well-being of the Leribe community by ensuring reliable access to clean water and effective sanitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair water supply lines, drainage systems, and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing issues, including leaks, blockages, and system failures, and implement effective solutions.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plumbing fixtures, pumps, valves, and other related equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency plumbing call-outs and resolve critical issues to minimize service disruption.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications for installation and repair work.
  • Ensure all plumbing work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and WASCO's operational standards.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, and specialized plumbing equipment.
  • Document work performed, materials used, and provide reports on system status and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other technical staff and departments to ensure integrated and efficient service delivery.
  • Educate customers on proper water usage and basic plumbing maintenance when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Plumber, preferably within a utility or large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of water distribution and sewerage systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for complex plumbing issues.
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Understanding of relevant safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks in various conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational or Trade Certificate in Plumbing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with municipal water and wastewater systems.
  • Certification in confined space entry or working at heights.
  • Knowledge of advanced plumbing technologies and materials.
