Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated areas to deter criminal activity, enforce traffic laws, and maintain public order.
  • Respond to emergency calls, critical incidents, and non-emergency service requests promptly and professionally.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of crimes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Apprehend suspects, execute warrants, and provide testimony in court when required.
  • Engage with community members, participate in outreach programs, and build positive relationships to foster trust and cooperation.
  • Administer first aid and provide emergency assistance to victims and those in distress.
  • Manage conflict situations, mediate disputes, and de-escalate volatile encounters effectively.
  • Enforce provincial statutes, federal laws, and municipal by-laws with fairness and impartiality.
  • Maintain physical fitness and proficiency in the use of police equipment and tactics.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • High level of physical fitness and stamina
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Demonstrated integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License (or equivalent)
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
  • No criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (college diploma or university degree)
  • Prior experience in a related field (e.g., security, military, social work)
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Ancaster/Hamilton community
  • Experience in community service or volunteer work
  • Knowledge of local bylaws and community-specific challenges
