Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Port Operator with expertise in Dock & Warehouse Coordination to join our thriving operations in Prescot, Liverpool. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy lifting equipment (e.g., forklifts, reach stackers, gantry cranes) for loading and unloading cargo from vessels and trucks.
  • Coordinate dock activities, including cargo staging, dispatching, and vessel turnaround, ensuring adherence to schedules and operational procedures.
  • Receive, inspect, and document incoming shipments, verifying quantities and condition against manifests and logging into inventory systems.
  • Organize and manage warehouse space effectively, optimizing storage layouts and ensuring easy access for retrieval and distribution.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain accurate records of stock movement, location, and condition.
  • Implement and enforce strict health and safety protocols across all dock and warehouse operations to prevent incidents and ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with customs officials, shipping agents, and transport providers to facilitate smooth cargo flow and resolve any operational bottlenecks.
  • Identify and report any damaged goods, discrepancies, or operational issues promptly, assisting in investigations and corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor junior operators, promoting best practices, safety awareness, and efficient handling techniques.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Port Operator, Dockworker, or Warehouse Coordinator in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Valid certifications for operating heavy lifting equipment (e.g., counterbalance forklift, reach truck, ideally also reach stacker/gantry crane).
  • Strong understanding of port operations, shipping procedures, and warehouse management systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a physically demanding environment, including varying weather conditions and shift patterns.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Exceptional commitment to health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to react quickly and calmly to operational challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Port Operations, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific terminal operating systems (TOS) or warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with dangerous goods handling procedures (IMDG Code and ADR).
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role within a port or large warehouse setting.
