Job Description

Nanyuki High School is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and dedicated Principal Assistant to join our vibrant administrative team. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive support to the Principal in the day-to-day management and strategic planning of the school’s educational and operational functions. The Principal Assistant will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of school activities, maintaining high standards of discipline, fostering exceptional academic performance, and prioritizing student welfare across all levels. Your leadership will directly influence the positive learning environment we strive to create and uphold.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of the Kenyan education system, including curriculum frameworks and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal in the overall administration, management, and supervision of the school's academic and co-curricular programs.
  • Oversee the effective implementation of school policies, programs, and procedures in alignment with the Kenyan Ministry of Education guidelines and school objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage school calendars, daily operational schedules, and special events, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of teaching and non-teaching staff as delegated by the Principal, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Handle student discipline matters, welfare, guidance, and counseling, ensuring a safe, supportive, and conducive learning environment.
  • Facilitate effective communication channels among staff, students, parents, and the wider community, acting as a key point of contact.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and other administrative documents for the Principal, Board of Management, and relevant external stakeholders.
  • Manage school resources, including facilities, equipment, and supplies, in an efficient, accountable, and sustainable manner.
  • Participate actively in curriculum development, assessment coordination, and academic performance monitoring and evaluation.
  • Deputize for the Principal in their absence, assuming full responsibilities for school operations and decision-making.
  • Lead or participate in strategic planning initiatives, school improvement projects, and innovation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant educational regulations and statutory requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in educational administration, preferably at a secondary school level within the Kenyan system.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor staff and students.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Kenyan education system, policies, curriculum, and regulations (e.g., TSC guidelines).
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with keen attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency in office software (MS Office Suite, Google Workspace) and experience with school management information systems (SMIS).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with utmost discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and strategic decision-making capabilities under pressure.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and innovative approach to educational challenges and opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in a senior administrative role (e.g., Head of Department, Deputy Principal) within a reputable secondary school.
  • Training or certification in conflict resolution, counseling, or guidance and counseling.
  • Experience with performance management, staff development programs, and mentorship initiatives.
  • Familiarity with financial management principles and budgeting within an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering a positive school culture and community engagement.
