Job Description

Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supply chain and procurement? Carrefour Kenya is seeking a proactive Procurement Assistant to join our dedicated Supply Chain team at our Yaya Centre location. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in supporting our inventory purchase operations, ensuring that our shelves are always stocked with the products our customers love. You will work closely with our Procurement and Inventory Managers, playing a key part in the end-to-end procurement process, from requisition to delivery. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of purchase orders and requisitions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with the inventory management team to identify purchasing needs and prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers regarding orders, deliveries, quality issues, and payment schedules.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential new suppliers, compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates to determine the best options.
  • Maintain and update vendor information, purchase records, and procurement documentation in the company's systems.
  • Support the negotiation of favorable terms, prices, and contracts with suppliers under the guidance of senior procurement staff.
  • Track the status of orders and ensure timely delivery of goods, escalating any delays or issues to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in the reconciliation of invoices and resolve discrepancies with suppliers and the finance department.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement and supply chain functions.
  • Generate procurement reports and analyze data to support decision-making and optimize purchasing strategies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with keen attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of procurement principles and inventory management concepts.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of proven experience in a procurement, purchasing, or supply chain support role, preferably in the retail sector.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems or procurement software.
  • Certification in Procurement and Supply (e.g., CIPS) is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with local supplier networks and market dynamics in Kenya.
