Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Project Manager, Construction Lead, to join our dedicated team at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of our construction and infrastructure development projects, from inception to completion. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that all construction initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards, directly supporting our mission to provide exceptional healthcare services.

As the Project Manager, Construction Lead, you will be responsible for defining project scope, developing detailed project plans, managing budgets, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams including contractors, architects, engineers, and hospital stakeholders. You will lead the selection and management of external vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure strict adherence to all local building codes, health regulations, and environmental standards. This role requires a proactive leader with a proven track record in managing complex construction projects, ideally within the healthcare or public sector. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related communications, providing regular updates to senior management and ensuring transparent communication with all parties involved.

Your expertise will be critical in mitigating risks, resolving unforeseen challenges, and implementing best practices in project management and construction methodologies. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all phases of construction projects from planning and design to execution and handover.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure financial accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant local and national building codes, permits, and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among all project team members and external partners.
  • Oversee the procurement process for materials, equipment, and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality control checks to ensure high standards of workmanship.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction project management, with a focus on building projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulatory requirements in Kenya.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Commitment to upholding high safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2).
  • Experience in healthcare facility construction or public sector infrastructure projects.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Institution of Engineers of Kenya, Architectural Association of Kenya).
  • Familiarity with local Naivasha/Nakuru County government procurement and construction regulations.
