Job Description

Akamai Technologies is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Remote DevOps Support Engineer to join our dynamic team, operating from anywhere within the United States. In this “Work from Anywhere” role, you will be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of Akamai’s globally distributed cloud infrastructure and services. This critical position involves providing expert-level technical support, meticulously troubleshooting complex system issues, and collaborating seamlessly with our engineering, development, and operations teams to implement preventative measures and drive continuous improvement. Your day-to-day will involve diving deep into system logs, performance metrics, and application behavior to diagnose and resolve incidents swiftly, minimizing impact and maintaining our high standards of service.

Beyond reactive problem-solving, you will be a proactive contributor to our operational excellence. This includes identifying recurring issues, proposing and implementing automation scripts and tools to streamline workflows, and enhancing our monitoring and alerting systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience with a diverse and cutting-edge technology stack, encompassing Linux operating systems, leading cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP, containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and various CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools. You’ll also be instrumental in documenting solutions, creating runbooks, and sharing knowledge across the organization to foster a culture of shared learning and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level technical support and troubleshooting for complex infrastructure and application issues within a DevOps environment.
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents related to system performance, availability, and reliability across cloud platforms and distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, development, and operations teams to identify root causes of incidents and implement permanent solutions.
  • Develop, test, and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual effort.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of monitoring, alerting, and logging systems.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical systems (if applicable to team structure).
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
  • Proactively identify areas for system improvement and contribute to architectural discussions.
  • Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with security best practices and operational standards.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Systems Engineering role with a focus on support.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting (Bash, Python, Go).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
  • Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk).
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, Load Balancing).
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate complex technical issues clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with web servers and application servers (e.g., Nginx, Apache, Tomcat).
  • Experience working in a large-scale, distributed systems environment.
  • Understanding of security best practices in a cloud/DevOps context.
