Abcam, a leading global life science company, is seeking a proactive and strategic Remote Logistics Partner to join our dynamic team, focusing specifically on our UK operations. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape our logistics strategy and execution across the United Kingdom from a remote setting, collaborating closely with various internal departments and external partners.
As our Remote Logistics Partner, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective flow of our critical research reagents and products throughout the UK. You will act as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all UK logistics matters, identifying opportunities for improvement, negotiating with carriers, and implementing best practices. This isn’t just about managing shipments; it’s about being a strategic thought leader who can analyze data, foresee challenges, and develop innovative solutions to enhance our delivery network and customer satisfaction. You will leverage your expertise in UK customs regulations, freight forwarding, and domestic distribution to streamline processes and elevate our operational excellence.

You will be expected to maintain strong relationships with our third-party logistics (3PL) providers, monitor their performance against agreed KPIs, and ensure strict adherence to quality and service standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize logistics strategies for all inbound and outbound shipments within the UK.
- Manage relationships and negotiate contracts with freight forwarders, couriers, and 3PL providers, ensuring competitive rates and high service levels.
- Monitor and analyze logistics performance data, identifying trends, issues, and opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant UK and international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and hazardous materials guidelines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Sales, Customer Service, and Operations teams to align logistics activities with overall business objectives.
- Lead or participate in logistics-related projects aimed at process improvement, technology adoption, and supply chain resilience.
- Provide expert guidance and support on all UK logistics inquiries, resolving complex issues and mitigating potential disruptions.
- Prepare regular reports on logistics performance, budget adherence, and strategic initiatives for senior management.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or freight forwarding, with a significant focus on UK operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in UK customs regulations, import/export procedures, and domestic distribution networks.
- Proven track record of managing and negotiating with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and carriers.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of building effective relationships remotely.
- Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- In-depth understanding of incoterms and international shipping best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in Logistics (e.g., CILT, APICS) or Project Management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
- Experience within the life science, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry.
- Familiarity with cold chain logistics and handling of temperature-sensitive materials.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies for process optimization.
