As a Retail Security Guard, you will be the first line of defense in maintaining a safe and secure shopping environment for customers and staff. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol retail premises regularly to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Monitor surveillance equipment, including CCTV, for suspicious activities or disturbances.
- Respond promptly to alarms and investigate disturbances, taking appropriate action as per company policy and procedure.
- Detain individuals suspected of shoplifting or other criminal acts, strictly adhering to legal guidelines and company protocols.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
- Enforce store policies and procedures to maintain order and prevent disruptive behavior, ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Maintain a highly visible presence to actively deter criminal activity and ensure a safe shopping environment for all patrons.
- Assist customers and staff with inquiries, providing directions or information as needed, while maintaining a professional and approachable demeanor.
- Collaborate effectively with law enforcement agencies when necessary to address security incidents and provide required assistance.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for interacting with diverse individuals
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective under pressure in challenging situations
- Exceptional punctuality and unwavering reliability are crucial for this role
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and perform light lifting if required
- A genuine willingness to learn and adapt to new security procedures and technologies
- Basic computer literacy for efficient report writing and surveillance monitoring
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior customer service experience in retail or hospitality settings
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or a strong willingness to obtain it within the first 90 days)
- Completion of a recognized basic security training course (a distinct advantage, but not mandatory)
- A valid Montana driver's license with a clean driving record
