Job Description

Career.zycto is excited to partner with a premier manufacturing client in Kingston upon Thames, London, to recruit a highly skilled and dedicated Sheet Metal Worker. This is an exceptional opportunity for an English-speaking professional with a passion for precision fabrication and a commitment to producing high-quality metal components.

As a Sheet Metal Worker, you will be an integral part of a specialist team, responsible for the intricate art and science of working with various metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Your expertise will be crucial in translating engineering drawings and specifications into tangible, functional parts for a diverse range of applications, from architectural elements to specialized industrial machinery. This role demands a keen eye for detail, an unwavering commitment to accuracy, and the ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools with dexterity and safety.

You will be expected to interpret complex blueprints, meticulously measure and cut materials, and employ a range of fabrication techniques such as bending, forming, shaping, and welding. Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, bend, form, and shape sheet metal using hand and power tools, as well as specialized machinery (e.g., press brakes, shears).
  • Perform various welding techniques (TIG, MIG, ARC) on different types of metal.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  • Assemble and install fabricated metal components.
  • Maintain and operate workshop machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize fabrication processes.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of tools and equipment.
  • Manage material inventory and report discrepancies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in various sheet metal fabrication techniques (cutting, bending, forming, shaping).
  • Competence in TIG, MIG, and/or ARC welding.
  • Skilled in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers).
  • Strong understanding of different metal types and their properties (steel, stainless steel, aluminum).
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision craftsmanship.
  • Adherence to strict safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity required for handling materials and operating machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Sheet Metal Work, Fabrication & Welding, or a related field.
  • Completed apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication.
  • Experience with CNC fabrication machinery.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for interpreting designs.
  • Forklift license or experience operating overhead cranes.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume manufacturing or bespoke fabrication environment.
