Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Site Material Assistant to join our dynamic project team in Welezo, Zanzibar City. This full-time position is absolutely crucial for the seamless operation and efficient management of materials and equipment on our bustling construction site. As a Site Material Assistant, you will be at the heart of our logistical operations, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that all project materials, from raw resources to specialized equipment, are meticulously received, securely stored, accurately issued, and tracked with precision and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and delivery notes, reporting any discrepancies or damages immediately.
- Organize and maintain the site store and laydown areas, ensuring materials are stored safely, securely, and in an easily accessible manner, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Issue materials to site personnel and subcontractors as required, meticulously maintaining accurate records of all outgoing items and their intended use.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile with system records, identifying and investigating any variances to ensure stock accuracy.
- Assist in the preparation of material requests, purchase requisitions, and comprehensive inventory reports for management.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of all materials, including hazardous materials, in strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of all material storage areas and contribute actively to overall site housekeeping standards.
- Operate basic material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks) safely and efficiently, if required and certified.
- Collaborate closely with site engineers, supervisors, and procurement teams to forecast future material needs and optimize stock levels, preventing overstocking or shortages.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, actively promoting a safe working environment for all site personnel at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a material handling, storekeeping, or logistics assistant role, preferably within a construction or industrial environment.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management principles and practices, including stock rotation and control.
- Ability to accurately read and understand delivery notes, purchase orders, and material specifications.
- Strong organizational skills and an impeccable attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) for record-keeping and data entry.
- Good physical condition, capable of lifting, carrying, and moving materials as required by the role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective teamwork.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with various construction materials, tools, and equipment.

- Fluency in Swahili (written and spoken) and a good working knowledge of English.
