Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Car Mechanic to join our dynamic team at our Gicumbi service center. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and longevity of our diverse fleet of vehicles, primarily buses and support vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess a strong diagnostic aptitude, exceptional technical skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of vehicle maintenance and repair. You will be instrumental in conducting thorough inspections, performing complex repairs, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostics on vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using advanced diagnostic tools and manual inspection.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and filter replacements according to manufacturer specifications and company schedules.
- Execute complex repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and electrical components, with a focus on heavy-duty vehicles.
- Troubleshoot and repair vehicle air conditioning systems and other auxiliary equipment, ensuring passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure all vehicles meet stringent safety and operational standards before and after service.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and historical service data.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, workshop guidelines, and environmental regulations in the workplace to ensure a secure and compliant environment.
- Collaborate effectively with other mechanics, service technicians, and the service management team to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
- Order necessary parts and supplies, ensuring proper inventory management and cost-effective procurement.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics and apprentices, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Continuously update knowledge of new vehicle technologies, repair techniques, and industry best practices through training and self-study.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Car Mechanic, with a significant portion of experience with heavy vehicles or buses.
- Strong foundational knowledge of automotive systems, including diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, complex hydraulics, and advanced electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of diagnostic equipment (e.g., OBD-II scanners, multimeters) and both hand/power tools common in a modern garage.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail in identifying root causes of malfunctions.
- Strong attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality workmanship and vehicle safety standards.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and team collaboration.
- Valid driver’s license with appropriate category for heavy vehicles (Code D or equivalent) is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or advanced certification in Automotive Mechanics, Diesel Technology, or a closely related field.
- Specific experience with bus models or heavy-duty vehicle brands commonly used in Rwanda (e.g., Yutong, Zhongtong, Fuso, Mercedes-Benz bus chassis).
- Familiarity with fleet management software and digital record-keeping systems for maintenance logs.
- Prior experience working in a high-volume, busy garage, or a dedicated workshop within a transport or logistics company.
- Knowledge of Rwandan vehicle inspection regulations and standards.
