Gearhouse South Africa is seeking a dedicated Stage Assistant to join our Production Team on a temporary basis for upcoming projects in the Somerset West area. This is an incredible opportunity for someone eager to learn the ropes, support seasoned professionals, and contribute to the seamless execution of diverse events. As a Stage Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the pre-production, setup, execution, and strike phases of various productions, ensuring all technical and logistical aspects run smoothly. You will work closely with our expert technicians and crew, contributing to a collaborative and fast-paced environment where precision and teamwork are paramount. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the loading and unloading of technical equipment (audio, lighting, video, staging) from trucks and storage.
- Support the setup and dismantle of staging elements, set pieces, and various production equipment according to technical specifications and safety guidelines.
- Help with cable management, routing, and securing to ensure a tidy and safe working environment.
- Assist technical operators with positioning and focusing of lighting fixtures, sound equipment, and video screens.
- Perform general on-site duties as directed by the Production Manager or Lead Technician, including maintaining cleanliness and order on stage and backstage areas.
- Participate in pre-show checks and post-show breakdown, ensuring all equipment is accounted for and packed correctly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and site-specific regulations.
- Proactively identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the relevant team member.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude, contributing to a strong team dynamic.
- Provide general logistical support to the production team as needed throughout the event lifecycle.
Required Skills
- Strong physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment repeatedly.
- Basic understanding of live event production environments and safety procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively under pressure.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Effective communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a similar assistant role within live events, theatre, or a related field.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of basic rigging principles or stagecraft.
- A valid driver's license and own reliable transportation.
- Relevant certification in health and safety practices for events.
