Career.zycto is thrilled to partner with a prominent cultural institution in Sherbrooke, Quebec, to seek an experienced and highly organized Stage Manager. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of live theatrical productions, ensuring seamless execution from conceptualization through to strike. As a Stage Manager, you will be the lynchpin of communication, organization, and problem-solving, working closely with directors, designers, actors, and production crews to bring artistic visions to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain production schedules, ensuring all rehearsals, fittings, and technical sessions run efficiently and on time.
  • Act as the primary communication hub between the Director, designers, cast, and crew, relaying information clearly and accurately.
  • Oversee all rehearsal processes, taking blocking notes, tracking props, costumes, and set changes, and providing daily reports.
  • Call all cues (lighting, sound, video, scenic, flys) during performances, maintaining the artistic integrity and timing established by the Director.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all cast and crew members, enforcing venue safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Prepare and distribute daily call sheets, rehearsal reports, and performance reports to all relevant production personnel.
  • Manage and maintain the stage management kit, ensuring all necessary tools and supplies are readily available.
  • Coordinate the setup and strike of all scenic elements, props, and technical equipment.
  • Supervise assistant stage managers, interns, and run crew, providing clear direction and support.
  • Troubleshoot on-the-fly issues during rehearsals and performances with composure and efficiency.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and organized prompt book throughout the entire production process.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Stage Manager in professional theatrical productions (minimum 3 years)
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities in English and French (bilingualism preferred)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting theatrical scripts, ground plans, and technical drawings
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure in a fast-paced live production environment
  • In-depth knowledge of theatre etiquette, safety standards, and technical theatre practices
  • Proficiency with scheduling software and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Theatre Arts, Production Management, or a related field
  • Experience with a variety of performance genres (e.g., musicals, opera, dance, straight plays)
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Experience with budgeting and inventory management for theatrical productions
  • Familiarity with local Sherbrooke/Quebec arts scene and resources
