Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking dedicated and skilled Stagehands to join our vibrant events team in Parklands, Nairobi. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about live events, eager to contribute their technical expertise and strong work ethic to create unforgettable experiences. As a Stagehand, you will be a crucial part of our production crew, responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, and strike of various event elements, including staging, lighting, sound, video, and scenic décor.

We are looking for someone who is not only physically capable but also possesses a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to adhering to strict safety protocols. You’ll work closely with event managers, technical directors, and other crew members, playing a vital role in transforming concepts into spectacular realities. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of event equipment and materials.
  • Safely and efficiently set up and dismantle staging, trusses, backdrops, and other structural components.
  • Install and position lighting fixtures, sound equipment, video screens, and projection systems under supervision.
  • Operate follow spots, assist with microphone setup, and manage cable runs according to technical specifications.
  • Support the technical team with basic troubleshooting of equipment during events.
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as industry best practices.
  • Assist performers and presenters with on-stage needs, including prop placement and quick changes.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, technical directors, and clients to achieve event goals.

Required Skills

  • Proven physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 25kg) and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of event production terminology and equipment (lighting, sound, staging).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • A proactive attitude towards problem-solving and a keen eye for detail.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all workplace safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per event schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (1-2 years) in a stagehand, production assistant, or similar role.
  • Certification in basic rigging, scaffolding, or a related technical skill.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures in an event context.
  • Valid driver’s license with experience driving commercial vehicles.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
