Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Part-Time Systems Engineer to join our dynamic ICT department. This vital role involves maintaining the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our internal systems, networks, and servers, which are crucial for the seamless functioning of Siaya County Government operations. As a Part-Time Systems Engineer, you will work approximately 20-25 hours per week, offering flexibility while ensuring our critical infrastructure remains operational. You will be responsible for providing technical support, conducting routine maintenance, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and contributing to the security and optimization of our IT environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular system and network monitoring to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues proactively.
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), applications, and network services.
- Provide technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network connectivity problems.
- Manage and maintain server infrastructure, including virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Assist in the implementation of IT security measures, including firewalls, antivirus, and data backup/recovery solutions.
- Conduct routine data backups and recovery tests to ensure business continuity.
- Develop and maintain documentation for IT systems, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
- Collaborate with the ICT team to identify areas for system improvement and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with county IT policies and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
- Proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with IT security best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
