Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and commercially astute Tax Consultant specializing in VAT, Income Tax, and Corporate Tax to join a thriving professional services team in Leeds. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, providing expert advice on direct and indirect tax matters, and preparing detailed tax computations and returns. Beyond compliance, you will actively engage in tax planning initiatives, advising on transactions, restructuring, and specific industry challenges to optimize tax positions and mitigate risks. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert tax advice on VAT, Income Tax, and Corporate Tax matters to a diverse client portfolio.
  • Manage a portfolio of tax compliance engagements, ensuring timely and accurate submission of returns.
  • Prepare and review complex tax computations, including corporation tax returns (CT600s), personal tax returns (SA100s), and VAT returns.
  • Conduct in-depth tax planning and advisory projects, identifying opportunities for tax efficiencies and risk mitigation.
  • Research and interpret complex tax legislation, advising clients on the implications of changes in tax law.
  • Assist with HMRC enquiries and investigations, acting as a liaison between clients and tax authorities.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their business needs to offer tailored tax solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to their professional development within the tax department.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, identifying opportunities for new engagements and cross-selling services.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Tax Consultant or Senior Tax Accountant with a focus on UK VAT, Income Tax, and Corporate Tax.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and accounting standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex tax concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH, Alphatax, IRIS) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong client relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional tax/accountancy qualification.
  • Experience working in a professional services firm or a large in-house tax department.
  • Exposure to international tax issues or specific industry sectors (e.g., property, technology).
  • A Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement tax planning strategies that deliver tangible client benefits.
