Job Description

Westcoast International School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team in Petite Rivière. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in planning and executing daily lessons and activities, ensuring all materials are prepared.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students needing additional support in various subjects.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Support students with special educational needs, adapting activities and materials as required.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, playtime, lunch breaks, and school excursions.
  • Assist with classroom administrative tasks, including record-keeping, grading papers, and preparing displays.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Actively participate in school events, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French is a plus).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for managing classroom resources and tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of child development and learning principles.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant diploma or certificate in Education, Childcare, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working as a teaching assistant or in a similar educational support role (at least 1 year).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with international school curricula (e.g., IB, Cambridge).
