Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Tour Guide to lead captivating City & Heritage Walks across Govan and wider Glasgow. This isn’t just a job; it’s an opportunity to be an ambassador for one of Scotland’s most historically rich and vibrant areas. You’ll be responsible for bringing the unique stories of Govan’s shipbuilding legacy, its ancient roots, and Glasgow’s broader cultural tapestry to life for diverse groups of visitors. From the Govan Stones to the bustling city centre, you will craft engaging narratives, share fascinating anecdotes, and ensure every guest leaves with a deeper appreciation and understanding of our beloved city.

You will navigate routes efficiently, manage group dynamics with ease, and handle questions with confidence and charm. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging and informative walking tours of Govan and Glasgow's key historical and cultural sites.
  • Research and continuously update knowledge on local history, culture, and current events to enhance tour content.
  • Manage tour groups effectively, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
  • Provide clear, audible commentary, adapting delivery style to suit different audiences and group sizes.
  • Answer questions from guests thoughtfully and accurately, fostering an interactive environment.
  • Adhere to planned tour schedules and routes, managing time efficiently.
  • Represent Career.zycto professionally and courteously at all times.
  • Assist with group check-ins and basic administrative tasks related to tour operations.
  • Handle unexpected situations or minor emergencies with calmness and resourcefulness.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Glasgow's history, culture, and landmarks, particularly Govan.
  • Ability to tell engaging stories and adapt information for diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable demeanour.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving abilities and a calm approach under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a tour guide or in a public-facing interpretive role.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., French, German, Spanish, Mandarin).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Degree or relevant qualification in History, Archaeology, Tourism, or related field.
