Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Full-Time Train Operator to join our dynamic team in Centennial Valley, Conway. As a Train Operator, you will be the backbone of our operations, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains, ensuring timely deliveries and adherence to all operational protocols. This pivotal role requires an unwavering commitment to safety, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to operate complex machinery in varying conditions.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve operating locomotives, adhering strictly to railway operating rules, signals, and company policies. You will conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, troubleshoot minor mechanical issues, and maintain clear communication with dispatchers, conductors, and other crew members. Navigating through diverse terrains and weather conditions, you will be entrusted with the safety of valuable cargo and, in some cases, passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Operate locomotives and trains safely and efficiently according to established schedules, signals, and rules.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of locomotives and train cars, identifying and reporting any defects or malfunctions.
- Adhere strictly to all railway operating rules, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, conductors, and other crew members using radio and other communication systems.
- Monitor train speed, air brake systems, and other critical indicators to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, equipment failures, or hazardous situations.
- Complete and submit accurate operational reports, including incident reports, daily logs, and defect reports.
- Assist with coupling and uncoupling cars, connecting air hoses, and operating switches when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness, anticipating potential hazards and making proactive decisions.
- Undergo periodic training and certification to stay compliant with industry standards and company requirements.
Required Skills
- Valid Locomotive Engineer Certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Comprehensive understanding of railway operating rules and regulations
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to protocols
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment
- Physical ability to climb, lift, push, pull, and work in various weather conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Conductor or in a similar rail operations role
- Experience operating various types of locomotives
- Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Familiarity with railroad signaling systems and track layouts
- Associate’s degree or vocational training in a related field
