Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Translator Language Expert to join our vibrant team in Kwale County, Kenya. This pivotal role involves facilitating seamless communication across various languages, primarily focusing on Swahili, English, and potentially local dialects, for a diverse range of projects and clients. Key Responsibilities
- Translate documents and content from source languages (primarily English) into target languages (primarily Swahili) and vice versa, ensuring accuracy, cultural relevance, and adherence to specific terminology.
- Conduct thorough linguistic review and proofreading of translated materials to ensure grammatical correctness, stylistic consistency, and overall quality.
- Manage translation projects from inception to completion, meeting deadlines and client expectations.
- Utilize translation memory (TM) tools, glossaries, and style guides to maintain consistency and efficiency.
- Research and acquire knowledge on diverse subject matters to ensure precise and contextually appropriate translations.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to clarify requirements and provide linguistic insights.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all translated materials and sensitive information.
- Provide cultural consultancy and localization advice as needed.
Required Skills
- Native-level fluency in Swahili (written and spoken)
- Advanced/native-level proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Proven experience in translation and localization, preferably with a portfolio
- Exceptional grammatical and stylistic command of both English and Swahili
- Strong research skills for terminology and subject matter accuracy
- Proficiency in CAT tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ, Wordfast) or willingness to learn
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of Kenyan cultural nuances
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field
- Certification from a recognized translation body (e.g., ATA, ITI) or equivalent
- Proficiency in additional local Kenyan languages (e.g., Digo, Giriama) or other international languages
- Experience in specialized translation domains (e.g., legal, medical, technical, marketing)
- Experience with machine translation post-editing (MTPE)
