Are you a skilled Class A CDL Truck Driver seeking a career that offers both stability and flexibility? As an ABF Freight Truck Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of freight to and from various destinations, primarily within our Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) network. This includes operating tractor-trailer combinations, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, securing cargo, and accurately completing all necessary paperwork and logs. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial motor vehicles, including tractor-trailer combinations, in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, federal, state, and local traffic laws, and company policies and procedures.
- Properly load, unload, and secure freight, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Accurately complete all required documentation, including bills of lading, freight manifests, and driver logs (electronic or manual).
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding schedules, deliveries, and potential delays.
- Maintain a clean and organized truck cab and ensure equipment is handled with care.
- Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service during interactions with clients and the public.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules while prioritizing safety.
- Participate in ongoing safety training and abide by all safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no serious violations
- Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical and drug screen
- Proven ability to operate a manual transmission (standard shift) commercial vehicle
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety protocols
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to perform routine tasks such as lifting, bending, climbing, and securing freight
- Reliability and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience in an LTL or similar environment
- Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement
- Tanker endorsement
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and onboard technology
- High School Diploma or GED
