As a Long Distance Truck Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods over extensive routes, often requiring overnight stays. Your daily mission will involve conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your vehicle, ensuring it meets all safety standards and is roadworthy. You’ll skillfully navigate diverse road conditions, from bustling urban centers to scenic rural highways, always prioritizing safety, compliance with traffic laws, and adherence to company policies. We equip our drivers with well-maintained trucks and modern tools to support their journeys, but your expertise in handling various cargo types and securing loads will be paramount. Beyond driving, you’ll be a crucial communicator, providing updates on delivery status, documenting mileage and fuel consumption, and reporting any mechanical issues or delays promptly. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated trucks, trailers) for long-distance hauls across various regions of Rwanda.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure timely and safe delivery of goods, adhering strictly to schedules and traffic regulations.
- Properly secure cargo to prevent damage during transit and comply with load limits.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, rest periods, mileage, and fuel consumption.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics managers, and customers regarding delivery status, delays, and any issues encountered.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance tasks and troubleshoot common mechanical problems on the road.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and local, regional, and national transportation laws.
- Handle all necessary paperwork, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports.
- Represent Career.zycto and its partners professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class C or higher driver's license (or equivalent Rwandan heavy vehicle license).
- Proven experience in long-distance truck driving, preferably within East Africa.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Strong understanding of national road safety regulations and compliance.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Physical fitness to handle long hours of driving and occasional heavy lifting.
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and working knowledge of English.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate in defensive driving or advanced driving techniques.
- Experience with GPS and navigation software.
- Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and systems.
- Ability to operate various types of heavy vehicles and trailers.
