Key Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) safely and efficiently across designated routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
- Ensure secure loading and unloading of goods, or supervise these activities to prevent damage and ensure compliance.
- Adhere strictly to all UK road safety regulations, driving hours legislation, and tachograph rules.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, complete necessary paperwork, and manage digital driving records.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery schedules and potential issues.
- Perform minor roadside maintenance checks and report any vehicle defects promptly.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 (C) driving licence, or an equivalent international licence eligible for conversion.
- Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification (or willingness to obtain for international drivers).
- Minimum of 24 months proven experience as a professional truck driver.
- Excellent knowledge of UK road safety regulations and highway code.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics for basic maintenance checks.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with manual handling and securing loads.
- Demonstrable reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Good command of the English language, both spoken and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of cargo, such as refrigerated goods, hazardous materials (ADR), or abnormal loads.
- Familiarity with digital tachograph systems and telematics.
- Clean driving record with no major endorsements.
