Key Responsibilities
- Operate a company van safely and efficiently to deliver goods to various locations within Reading and surrounding areas.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Accurately load, unload, and secure goods, ensuring all items are handled with care to prevent damage.
- Verify cargo against delivery manifests, obtaining necessary signatures and documentation upon delivery.
- Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes, adhering to scheduled delivery times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and internal teams regarding delivery status, delays, or unforeseen challenges.
- Maintain a clean and organised vehicle, both inside and out.
- Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, company policies, and transport legislation.
- Provide exceptional customer service during interactions with clients at delivery points.
- Assist with warehouse duties, such as picking and packing, during periods of lower driving demand.
Required Skills
- Full, clean UK driving license (Category B minimum)
- Minimum of 2 years of professional van driving experience
- Excellent knowledge of Reading and surrounding local areas
- Strong geographical awareness and route planning skills
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 25kg safely
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety checks
- Customer-focused attitude with a commitment to service excellence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with handheld delivery devices and navigation software
- Experience driving long-wheelbase or high-top vans
- Familiarity with multi-drop delivery operations
- First Aid certification
