Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and meticulous Vehicle Inspector with a passion for automotive safety and regulatory compliance? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Vehicle Inspector – MOT & Compliance to join our growing team in Haymarket, Edinburgh. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of vehicle roadworthiness and ensuring full adherence to all MOT (Ministry of Transport) and national vehicle safety regulations.

As a Vehicle Inspector, you will perform comprehensive inspections on a wide range of vehicles, identifying potential faults, defects, and non-compliance issues with meticulous attention to detail. Your expertise will not only ensure vehicles meet legal requirements but also contribute significantly to the safety of our roads and the peace of mind of vehicle owners. This position demands a thorough understanding of vehicle mechanics, diagnostic procedures, and the latest MOT testing standards and legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough and accurate MOT tests on all classes of vehicles in accordance with DVSA guidelines and standards.
  • Perform detailed vehicle inspections for general roadworthiness, identifying mechanical, electrical, and structural faults.
  • Diagnose and report on vehicle defects, providing clear explanations and recommendations for necessary repairs.
  • Ensure all inspection processes and documentation strictly adhere to company policies and legal compliance requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of MOT testing standards, vehicle safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Operate and calibrate workshop equipment accurately and safely.
  • Provide excellent customer service by clearly communicating inspection results and offering professional advice.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment.
  • Assist with other workshop duties as required, supporting the wider team.

Required Skills

  • Valid DVSA MOT Tester certification (Classes 4, 5, 7 preferred)
  • Proven experience as a Vehicle Inspector or MOT Tester
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems (engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electrical)
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid UK driving license

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Experience with various vehicle makes and models
  • Additional certifications in specific vehicle systems or advanced diagnostics
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
