Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and skilled Veterinary Officer Animal Health to join our dedicated team in Zimmerman, Nairobi. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical veterinary services, including diagnosis, treatment, and preventative care for various animal species.
  • Perform routine and emergency surgical procedures with proficiency.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and interpret results to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Develop and implement animal health programs, including vaccination campaigns and deworming initiatives.
  • Advise animal owners and farmers on best practices in animal husbandry, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Participate in disease surveillance, reporting, and control efforts, including responding to disease outbreaks.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and clinic documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Educate the community on zoonotic diseases, public health aspects of animal welfare, and responsible pet ownership.
  • Mentor and supervise junior veterinary staff or animal health assistants when required.
  • Contribute to community outreach programs focused on animal welfare and public health education.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
  • Minimum of 3 years (36 months) post-qualification clinical experience in a busy veterinary setting.
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of animal diseases.
  • Proficiency in veterinary surgical procedures and emergency care.
  • Strong knowledge of animal husbandry practices, animal welfare, and public health regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client education skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of compassion, ethical standards, and professionalism in animal care.
  • Proficiency in using veterinary diagnostic equipment and clinic management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate training or certification in specific veterinary specializations (e.g., small animal medicine, public health, epidemiology).
  • Experience in community-based animal health programs or outreach initiatives.
  • Familiarity with local Nairobi animal health challenges and livestock management practices.
  • Fluency in Swahili is a strong asset for community engagement.
  • Valid driver's license for potential field work and outreach activities.
