Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-level VoIP systems, including IP PBXs, SIP trunks, and voice gateways.
  • Configure and troubleshoot SIP, H.323, MGCP, and other VoIP protocols to ensure seamless communication.
  • Monitor system performance, perform regular maintenance, and implement proactive measures to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with network and IT teams to integrate VoIP solutions effectively with existing infrastructure.
  • Provide advanced technical support and expertise for complex VoIP-related issues, escalating as necessary to resolve them.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis for service interruptions and implement preventive solutions to minimize future disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for VoIP architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Stay current with emerging VoIP technologies, industry trends, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a VoIP Engineer or similar telecommunications role.
  • Deep understanding of VoIP protocols including SIP, RTP, SRTP, and H.323.
  • Expertise with IP PBX systems such as Cisco Call Manager, Asterisk, FreePBX, or Microsoft Teams Voice.
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, QoS, VPNs) crucial for voice quality.
  • Experience with voice gateways and Session Border Controllers (SBCs).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex voice quality, connectivity, and performance issues.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, for technical and team interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural and diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA Collaboration, CCNP Collaboration, MS-700, Asterisk Certified Professional).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation tasks.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based VoIP platforms and Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) solutions.
  • Proficiency in French is considered a strong asset, reflecting Quebec's bilingual environment.
