Job Description

Are you a highly motivated individual eager to launch your career in the dynamic world of logistics? Purolator is seeking enthusiastic and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as an Entry Level Warehouse Forklift Operator at our bustling facility in York, Toronto. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced warehouse environment, with comprehensive training provided to ensure your success, even if you’re new to forklift operation or seeking to refresh your skills.

As a Warehouse Forklift Operator, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient movement of freight and packages within our state-of-the-art distribution center. Your primary responsibilities will include the expert operation of various types of forklifts, such as counterbalance and reach trucks, to effectively load, unload, stack, and retrieve materials. You will be instrumental in ensuring that goods are accurately stored, meticulously organized, and efficiently prepared for outbound dispatch, directly contributing to Purolator’s unwavering commitment to timely and reliable deliveries.

We are looking for individuals who possess a keen eye for detail, demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety, and are genuinely eager to learn and grow within a leading Canadian company. While prior experience in a similar role is considered an asset, it is not a strict prerequisite for this entry-level position. We offer robust and structured training programs designed to fully equip you with all the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to operate forklifts safely and effectively, including support for obtaining or renewing your forklift certification. Join the Purolator family and become an integral part of a team that deeply values hard work, collaborative teamwork, and continuous professional development, all while playing a pivotal role in the backbone of Canada’s vital supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate various types of forklifts (e.g., counterbalance, reach truck) to move, stack, load, and unload materials within the warehouse.
  • Perform diligent daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and other material handling equipment, promptly reporting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
  • Accurately load and unload trucks and trailers, ensuring proper documentation and securement of freight to prevent damage or loss.
  • Assist with precise inventory management, including counting, locating, and organizing products according to established warehouse procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and provincial regulations, including the consistent use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the warehouse, contributing to overall operational efficiency and hazard reduction.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure operational fluidity and meet daily productivity and shipping targets.
  • Identify and report any damaged goods, discrepancies in shipments, or potential safety hazards.
  • Participate actively in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Willingness to obtain or already possess a valid forklift operator certification (comprehensive training and support provided if needed).
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Possession of basic math and literacy skills to understand instructions, perform simple calculations, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in handling and tracking materials.
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a fast-paced, dynamic warehouse environment.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong, dedicated work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Previous experience (even informal) in a warehouse or logistics environment (not necessarily forklift-related).
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems or experience using RF scanners.
  • Experience operating various types of material handling equipment beyond forklifts.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage with opportunities for overtime pay.
