Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting assistance, ensuring client comfort and dignity.
  • Assist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing appropriate assistive devices and techniques.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as tidying living areas, laundry, and preparing nutritious meals according to dietary needs.
  • Administer medication reminders as per the client's care plan and provincial guidelines, documenting as required.
  • Monitor and accurately report any observed changes in clients' physical, mental, or emotional status to the supervisor promptly.
  • Engage clients in meaningful social activities, provide companionship, and foster a positive, stimulating environment.
  • Document care provided, observations, and relevant information accurately and in a timely manner using established systems.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, infection control measures, and company policies and procedures.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement, promoting client independence while respecting their personal choices and preferences.
  • Assist with errands and appointments as needed, ensuring client safety and comfort during outings.

Required Skills

  • Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized Ontario institution.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuinely compassionate approach to client care.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively to meet client needs.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid G driver's license, with willingness to travel within Hespeler, Cambridge.
  • Proficiency in English (both written and verbal communication) to ensure clear understanding.
  • Physical ability to lift, transfer, and reposition clients safely, following established protocols and using proper body mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of verifiable experience as a PSW, preferably within a home care or community setting.
  • Experience with specialized care, including dementia care, palliative care, or complex care needs.
  • Knowledge of other languages relevant to the diverse Hespeler community, such as Portuguese or Punjabi.
  • Comfortable using basic technology for documentation, scheduling, and communication (e.g., mobile applications, electronic charting).
