Job Description

This is a critical role at our manufacturing facility, located in the vibrant Exchange District of Winnipeg. As a Welding Technician (Factory Work) at Career.zycto, you will be an integral part of our production team, responsible for executing precise and high-quality welds on a variety of materials and components. Your expertise will directly contribute to the integrity and functionality of our fabricated products, which range across several industries. The successful candidate will be proficient in reading blueprints, interpreting welding symbols, and setting up welding equipment according to specifications. You will perform various welding processes, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, on materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Adherence to strict quality control standards and safety protocols is paramount in this role. You will inspect finished welds for quality, identify and correct imperfections, and ensure all work meets engineering and industry standards.

Beyond the technical execution, this position requires a strong commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, machinists, and other production staff to optimize processes and ensure timely project completion. Maintaining a clean and organized work area, performing routine maintenance on welding equipment, and troubleshooting minor issues will also be part of your daily responsibilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) on diverse materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum) according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings to determine project requirements.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate welding machines and related equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Inspect welded components for defects, ensuring compliance with quality standards, codes, and specifications.
  • Grind, cut, and prepare metal surfaces for welding, and finish welds as required.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and company policies, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize welding procedures and resolve fabrication issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting on welding equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Accurately document work performed, including material usage and time spent on projects.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Welding Technician in a manufacturing or factory setting.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Strong understanding of various metal properties and appropriate welding procedures.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of welding safety standards and best practices.
  • Ability to operate grinding, cutting, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various positions.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot welding issues.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Welding Red Seal certification or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Experience with automated welding equipment or robotics.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Forklift operation certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
