Siaya Express Sacco Ltd., a leading public transport provider in Siaya County, is seeking skilled and dedicated Matatu Drivers to join our dynamic team. As a Matatu Driver with Siaya Express Sacco Ltd., you will be entrusted with the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of passengers along designated routes within Siaya County. Your primary responsibilities will include operating a Matatu vehicle in strict accordance with all Kenyan traffic laws, NTSA regulations, and Sacco operational guidelines. You will be expected to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers, maintaining a clean and well-presented vehicle, and conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
Key aspects of your daily routine will involve accurate fare collection, issuing tickets when required, and providing friendly, professional service to every passenger. Navigating varying road conditions, adhering to schedules, and proactively addressing minor vehicle issues will be essential. We require drivers who are vigilant about vehicle maintenance, skilled in defensive driving techniques to prevent accidents, and proficient in basic vehicle troubleshooting. A thorough knowledge of Siaya County’s road network, bus stops, and local landmarks is crucial to provide efficient service and assist passengers with directions. You will also be responsible for courteously handling customer inquiries and complaints, escalating complex issues to management when necessary. This role demands a high degree of responsibility, integrity, excellent communication skills, and a strong customer-centric approach. Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Matatu vehicle safely and efficiently along designated routes within Siaya County.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, NTSA regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure the cleanliness and presentable condition of the Matatu, both interior and exterior.
- Collect fares accurately and issue tickets/receipts to passengers as required.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with inquiries and ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents encountered.
- Manage vehicle minor maintenance tasks and report major issues to the mechanic/management.
- Handle passenger complaints courteously and professionally, escalating unresolved issues.
- Adhere to established time schedules and routes, managing time effectively to avoid delays.
Required Skills
- Valid PSV (Public Service Vehicle) driver's license (Class B, C, D)
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Proven experience in public transport driving, preferably Matatu operations.
- Thorough knowledge of Siaya County road networks and local routes.
- Excellent defensive driving skills and a strong commitment to road safety.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.
- High level of integrity, punctuality, and reliability.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate of Good Conduct (renewable).
- First Aid certification.
- Additional driving certifications or advanced defensive driving courses.
- Experience with electronic fare collection systems.
- Fluency in Dholuo and Swahili.
