Career.zycto is actively seeking a dynamic and highly skilled News Anchor Media Professional to join a prominent media organization in Kisii County, Kenya. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned journalist with a captivating on-screen presence and a strong commitment to journalistic integrity. As a News Anchor, you will be the face and voice of daily news broadcasts, delivering timely, accurate, and engaging content to our diverse audience. You will be instrumental in shaping public discourse, covering local, national, and international stories with impartiality and insight.

Your primary role will involve researching, writing, and presenting news stories in a clear, concise, and compelling manner. You will conduct live interviews with guests, interact with field reporters, and provide real-time commentary during breaking news events. This position demands a professional who is not only adept at presenting information but also possesses strong editorial judgment, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to perform under pressure. You will collaborate closely with producers, editors, and technical teams to ensure seamless broadcast operations and maintain the highest standards of production quality. Beyond the broadcast studio, you may also be involved in content creation for digital platforms, engaging with audiences online, and participating in community outreach events. We are looking for someone who embodies credibility, possesses excellent storytelling abilities, and is passionate about informing and connecting with the Kisii community and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Anchor live and pre-recorded news broadcasts, delivering news with clarity, confidence, and credibility.
  • Research, write, and edit news scripts, ensuring accuracy, objectivity, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
  • Conduct live and taped interviews with newsmakers, experts, and community members.
  • Engage with viewers through social media and other digital platforms, fostering community interaction.
  • Collaborate with producers, directors, and technical staff to ensure smooth and professional broadcast execution.
  • Report on breaking news events and provide ad-hoc commentary as required.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas for stories and segments.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, national, and international current events.
  • Represent the organization at public events and community engagements.
  • Provide voice-overs for various news segments and promotional materials.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional on-air presence and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in news anchoring or broadcast journalism.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.
  • Ability to ad-lib and handle unscripted situations with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Swahili and English (both written and spoken).
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with broadcast technology and newsroom software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
  • Experience covering news specific to the Kisii County or wider Kenyan region.
