Job Description

Career.zycto is thrilled to be recruiting for an exceptional Sous Chef to join a vibrant and well-regarded culinary team in Coatbridge, Glasgow. As a Sous Chef, you will be the right hand to our Head Chef, playing a pivotal role in the daily operation of a busy and high-standard kitchen. You’ll be instrumental in crafting memorable dining experiences, contributing to menu development, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene are consistently met. This role demands creativity, precision, and a true passion for culinary arts. You will lead by example, mentoring junior staff, fostering a positive and efficient working environment, and ensuring seamless service delivery during peak times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management, including menu planning, food preparation, and cooking.
  • Oversee and manage kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef.
  • Lead, mentor, and train junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
  • Ensure consistent high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene.
  • Manage inventory, minimise waste, and control food costs effectively.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Contribute to the creation of innovative dishes and special menus.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1 year as a Sous Chef or Senior CDP.
  • Proven ability to manage a section and lead a team.
  • Strong understanding of culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Organisational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in diverse culinary settings (e.g., fine dining, hotel, gastro-pub).
  • Certification in Food Safety Management.
  • Demonstrated creativity in menu development and dish innovation.
