Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures, including restorative, surgical, and preventative care.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, set up instruments, and ensure all necessary equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, adhering strictly to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Greet and prepare patients for dental examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort throughout their visit.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as instructed by the dentist, ensuring proper positioning and minimal exposure.
  • Provide patients with comprehensive post-operative instructions and education on optimal oral hygiene practices.
  • Manage patient records, schedule appointments, and assist with administrative tasks as needed, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Monitor and maintain dental supplies and inventory, ensuring efficient stock levels and timely reordering.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, filing, and managing correspondence to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and professional reception and waiting area, contributing to a welcoming patient experience.

Required Skills

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience working as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental office setting.
  • Proficiency in dental terminology, instruments, and clinical procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on patient empathy.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping, scheduling, and general office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Open Dental, or local Kenyan systems).
  • Current CPR certification and knowledge of emergency protocols.
  • Radiology certification or demonstrated proficiency in dental radiography.
  • Bilingual abilities (e.g., English and Swahili) to better serve a diverse patient base.
  • Experience with digital X-ray systems and advanced dental technologies.
