Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular, thorough site inspections to monitor construction progress and quality.
  • Verify compliance with project specifications, drawings, and relevant building codes and standards (e.g., British Standards, CDM Regulations).
  • Identify and document any deviations, defects, or non-compliance issues, preparing detailed inspection reports.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors to address and rectify identified issues promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and environmental regulations are strictly adhered to on site.
  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, communications, and inspection outcomes.
  • Participate in site meetings, providing expert input on quality and compliance matters.
  • Review and approve materials and workmanship against approved samples and standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to site personnel regarding quality control procedures.
  • Assist in the resolution of technical queries and site-related challenges.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Site Inspector or similar quality assurance role in construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant UK building regulations, health & safety legislation (e.g., CDM), and quality standards.
  • Excellent observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in producing clear, concise, and comprehensive inspection reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software (MS Office Suite) and site management tools.
  • A valid driver's license for site travel within and around Edinburgh.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational qualification or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification from a relevant industry body (e.g., CIOB, ICWCI).
  • Experience with digital site inspection and reporting platforms.
  • Prior experience working on projects in the UK or with UK regulatory frameworks.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and technologies.
  • Familiarity with other European or international construction standards.
