Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our innovative team in Dronfield, Sheffield. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on automated production equipment, including robotic cells, conveyor systems, and packaging machinery.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults on complex automation systems.
  • Program, modify, and fine-tune Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Calibrate sensors, actuators, and other instrumentation to ensure optimal system performance and accuracy.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&ID diagrams to facilitate effective troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Implement software and hardware upgrades to existing automation systems for improved efficiency and reliability.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and system changes accurately and thoroughly.
  • Provide technical support and training to production operators on the safe and efficient operation of automated equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for process optimization and proposing innovative solutions.

Required Skills

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000)
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA development and troubleshooting
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding abilities
  • Solid understanding of industrial robotics (e.g., ABB, KUKA, Fanuc)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and diagrams
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP)
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or higher in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics)
  • Familiarity with vision systems and servo drives
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive, FMCG)
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles
  • Basic CAD software proficiency for reviewing system layouts
