Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and highly organized Healthcare Billing and Coding Analyst to join our administrative team at Mahalapye District Hospital. This critical role is essential for maintaining the financial health of our institution by ensuring accurate and timely processing of medical claims, coding of diagnoses and procedures, and managing patient billing. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as a thorough knowledge of medical insurance policies and billing regulations in Botswana. You will be responsible for reviewing patient records, assigning appropriate codes, preparing and submitting claims to various payers, and resolving any billing discrepancies or rejections. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services based on medical documentation.

  • Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to various insurance companies, government programs, and third-party payers.
  • Investigate and resolve denied or rejected claims by reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and taking corrective action.
  • Manage patient billing inquiries, explain charges, and process payments or establish payment plans.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness for billing purposes.
  • Perform regular audits of medical records and billing practices to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of billing and coding policies and procedures.
  • Generate financial reports related to billing, collections, and outstanding accounts.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
