Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Peer Support Specialist to join our growing team in Newton, Surrey. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with lived experience in mental health or substance use challenges to provide invaluable support, mentorship, and advocacy to others on their recovery journey. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will leverage your personal experiences to build rapport, foster hope, and guide individuals towards self-directed recovery and community integration. Your role is vital in demonstrating that recovery is not only possible but also achievable, by offering empathy, understanding, and practical strategies from a place of shared understanding.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about reducing stigma, promoting wellness, and empowering individuals to navigate their own paths with dignity and respect. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group peer support to individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Share personal lived experience in a thoughtful and intentional way to inspire hope and promote recovery.
  • Assist individuals in identifying their personal strengths, recovery goals, and developing coping strategies.
  • Facilitate connections to community resources, support networks, and other relevant services.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and rights within various systems, promoting self-advocacy skills.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and ongoing training opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with privacy guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges and a willingness to share your story appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to be stable in your own recovery for at least one year.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong empathy, non-judgmental attitude, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Peer Support training program or certification.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and mental health services in Surrey, BC.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, social services, or community setting.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
